H13 heat treatment process

1. Pre-heat treatment The H13 steel and die blanks supplied on the market are annealed at steel mills to ensure good metallurgical structure, proper hardness and good workability without the need for further annealing. However, after the forging plant is damaged, the original structure and properties are destroyed, the forging stress is increased, and the annealing needs to be re-annealed.

Isothermal nodular annealing process: 860 ~ 890 ℃ heat insulation 2h, cooled to 740 ~ 760 ℃ isothermal 4h, furnace cooling to about 500 ℃ baked.

2.Quenching and tempering requirements Good toughness mold quenching process specifications: heating temperature 1020 ~ 1050 ℃, oil or air cooling, hardness 54 ~ 58HRC; required thermosetting mold-based quenching process specifications, heating temperature 1050 ~ 1080 ℃, Oil-cooled, hardness 56 ~ 58HRC.

Recommended tempering temperature: 530 ~ 560 ℃, hardness 48 ~ 52HRC; tempering temperature 560 ~ 580 ℃; hardness 47 ~ 49HRC.

Tempering should be done twice. Tempering at 500 ℃, tempering secondary hardening peak, the highest tempering hardness, the peak at about 55HRC, but the worst toughness. Therefore, the tempering process should be avoided around 500 ℃ is appropriate. According to the needs of mold use, tempering at 540 ~ 620 ℃ better.

Quenching heating should be preheated twice (600 ~ 650 ℃, 800 ~ 850 ℃), to reduce the thermal stress generated during heating.

3. Chemical heat treatment H13 steel gas nitriding or nitrocarburizing if the mold can be further strengthened, but the nitriding temperature should not be higher than the tempering temperature in order to ensure that the heart strength does not decrease, thereby increasing the service life of the mold.
